Embracing rest and self-care as a strategy to survive the January blues.

Ah, January. Everyone’s back at work, the holiday buzz has worn off, and somehow there’s this pressure to be on top of everything from day one. Sound familiar? The whole "new year, new you" thing gets thrown around like we’re all supposed to magically transform overnight. But honestly, who has the energy for that? We don’t need a new version of ourselves—we just need to get through January feeling somewhat sane.

Real self-care isn’t about grand gestures or ticking off a long list of resolutions. It’s about finding those little moments that make life easier when everything feels a bit too much. Like getting home, ripping off that bra, and throwing on your favourite pyjamas (you know, the soft ones you’d live in if you could). Or putting your phone on silent so you don’t feel the pressure to read and reply to every message the second it comes in.

After a long day back at work, sometimes the best self-care is something simple, like having a couple of easy meals ready to go. That way, you’re not reaching for a bag of chips for dinner (again). Trust me, future you will thank you for that. And hey, if chips for dinner does happen occasionally, no guilt—it’s January, we’re all doing our best.

Another underrated form of self-care? Music. Throw on your favourite playlist while you unwind or prep dinner. Bonus points if you can have fresh linen on the bed—there’s something about crawling into crisp sheets that makes everything feel a bit better. Oh, and let’s not forget about a home skincare routine. A little pampering can go a long way in helping you feel more like yourself.

Sometimes, the simplest act of self-care is as easy as taking the dog for a walk. It doesn’t have to be long—just a couple of blocks, but the benefits are real. It’s a chance to clear your head, bond with your furry friend, and feel a sense of pride for getting out the door. The dog doesn’t care if you’ve got makeup on, whether you’re wearing a bra, or if your hair is a mess—they’ll love you just as you are. A few minutes of fresh air and connection can work wonders for your well-being.

And of course, intimate wellness. We’re all about it at Frenshy Kitten—not because you need to check off another goal, but because you deserve moments of pleasure and connection with yourself. Whether it’s five minutes of quiet time, a relaxing bath, or trying out something new (Mahla, anyone?), it’s all about doing what feels right for you.

So, here’s the thing: you don’t need a new you. You just need moments that help you feel good, even when life is busy. Skip the guilt, skip the pressure, and focus on what actually makes your day easier and more joyful. And if that means saying no to some of those January invitations, go for it. Your time, your rules.

Remember, self-care isn’t about perfection. It’s about being kind to yourself, whether that means curling up on the couch in your PJs or finding a few moments of bliss in your day.

You’ve got this, gorgeous.

With love,

MJ xx
